Info for Novelists

Please no querries - We're interested. Send your manuscript in one file (rtf, txt, pdf, doc) Here. Please do not zip the file.

Why be an Inscribed Writer?

Your book will have Inscribed behind it. We are a non-profit organization that supports the arts, so each sale of each of your books does not line someone's already rich pockets, it gets funnelled right back into the world of art.

Your books will be printed and bound in Canada on high quality 100% post-consumer recycled paper.

Inscribed pays novelists through royalties, the amount of which is negotiated before publication.

Publishing Policies

At this time, we are publishing only original, unpublished work. We are currently looking for fiction novels, but our policy is not to refuse any submission, so poetry and short story collections may be considered so long as they are entirely unpublished.

Marketing

The Team at Inscribed are constantly working at promoting the organization and its goals. Through this marketing, we will drive some sales of your book through our website and bookstore partners, however a successful writer with us will be willing to put in the hard work required to promote and sell a book, including self marketing, networking, and direct or indirect sales.

Reading Policy

Inscribed receives a large volume of submissions. While we do promise that every submission will be considered, we cannot promise that all submissions will be read all the way through. For this reason, Inscribed uses a Four Stage reading process for novel submissions. When you submit your manuscript to Inscribed, you embark on a journey that follows the same process as everyone else.

Stage 1: The manuscript is read no less than 20% of the way through. At this time, a decision is made whether to graduate the manuscript into stage 2. Submissions that do not pass stage 1 are usually riddled with grammar, spelling, or punctuation mistakes, or they do not sufficiently develop an interest in the reader.

Stage 2:The manuscript is read at least 60% of the way through. The reader will be looking for intriguing plot and character developments, emmergence of theme/symbology, and a unique use of the language.

Stage 3: The manuscript completes it's first reading. At this time Inscribed may contact you with comments or suggestions, or questions. If a synopsis did not accompany the original manuscript submission, it will be requested at this stage. Based on this communication, and overall impressions, a manuscipt may graduate into stage 4.

Stage 4: The manuscript undergoes a second reading from beginning to end. The editors may keep communication open during this stage. From the manuscripts that make it into Stage 4, 3 will be selected for publication in 2008. We may request to hold manuscripts in stage 4 for publication in the next year.

All writers who submit their work to Inscribed will receive constant communication as to where their manusript is in our 4 stage process. That way you're never left wondering if we're reading your work or not.
